ODBC connection read-only [message #367598] Mon, 01 February 1999 06:05 Go to next message

Im setting up an ODBC connection from MS Access to Oracle 8.
When I access the tables through ODBC (Oracle ODBC driver 8.0.5.2.0) I get them Read-Only. I do not have the Read-Only option checked in the data source configuration. This is very strange since I can load SQLPlus create a dummy table and throw in couple of values, go to MS Access and link the dummy table and it will be modifiable, but the tables already there will still be read-only. Also after a while the dummy table will become read-only. I have not been able to find out what puts it in the Read-Only mode.
Has anybody else experienced this?

Thanks.
Olaf

Olaf,

I've seen this behaviour when the table did not have a primary or unique key. Set up a PK and see if that helps.

Yes that was it. Thank you. Of 20+ tables I was importing only one small reference table didnt have a UK/PK, that was enough to get the whole thing read-only.
