I am installing Oracle 8.05 for the first time on a Sun Solaris 7.0 server aswell as installing the Net8 client for NT. I started my processes and my listener:
oracle 409 0.2 2.82820013704 ? S 10:16:27 0:00 ora_dbw0_prod
oracle 411 0.2 2.72791213376 ? S 10:16:27 0:00 ora_lgwr_prod
oracle 415 0.1 2.92676814168 ? S 10:16:27 0:00 ora_smon_prod
oracle 407 0.1 2.92895214392 ? S 10:16:27 0:00 ora_pmon_prod
oracle 413 0.1 2.72788813240 ? S 10:16:27 0:00 ora_ckpt_prod
oracle 417 0.1 2.42674412008 ? S 10:16:27 0:00 ora_reco_prod
oracle 419 0.1 0.2 936 656 pts/0 S 10:16:46 0:00 grep oracle
oracle 200 0.0 0.3 1416 1128 pts/0 S 09:20:49 0:00 -csh
oracle 300 0.0 1.611432 8016 ? S 09:24:42 0:00 /home/oracle/product/8.0/bin/tnslsnr listener -inherit

I have also setup my services port 1521 and a username in the dba group. When I use either Net8 Assistance or Net8 Easy Config to setup a Service Name I get the following error:

Connecting....

The test did not succeed.
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

There may be an error in the fields entered
or the server may not be ready for a connection.
You can check the server and retry, or continue.

I have ftp/telnet before using these users but it still gives me the same error.

Any ideas?
