Hi Tom,

What's the best way to configure both OLTP and reporting database on RAC database?

I can think of only two options:-

1) Create two different databases for both OLTP and reporting db and populate the data from
OLTP database to reporting db via database links

2) Create two instances on the same database and configure the first instance for OLTP and
second instance for reporting needs. This eliminates the need for extracting the data over
db link.

Could you please tell me the pros and cons on each option and suggest the best approach.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and providing excellent service to oracle community.

Why two different database/instance? For reporting purpose you can go by replication or data guard
