While doing export/import we specify the username and password. Preferably which user do we need to specify? Sys or system or our own user?

it depends upon who is doing what.

SYS user should be avoided except when installing or upgrading Oracle version

Look at your watch when you start it, look at your watch when it ends. Subtract starting time from ending time.

Is that the questions you really wanted to ask?

I want to know how to see the duration in the database itself or in the OS level. Is there a way?

Hi Michel/Blackswan,

Use your own account(s),

Why is that sys and system user should not be used to take export and import ? Can you explain ?

You THINK you didn't face any issue and, even so, this does not mean you will not face any issue and then it will be your fault and you couldn't blame Oracle and your boss will be allowed to fire you.
