I hope this is not an attempt to make people angry Mad Consider a few examples:
Your database runs a cell phone IN platform, and every minute of downtime costs you thousands of dollars in lost call revenue. Or a flight control database, if it is down for more than half an hour a fifty million dollar satellite will wander off course never to be found again. Or the database that controls the lasers a surgeon is using for your brain surgery. You, as DBA, might find this boring. RAC takes DBA work to another dimension. You probably aren't ready for it yet, better go through this first: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10897/toc.htm

You got it wrong, I'm afraid. He said:
Quote:

which means that he talked to a DBA who said that his job is boring. Now the OP wonders whether it is true or not. If it is, he'd rather be a Forms & Reports developer. Or something like that.

Either DBA or RAC

You're confused. RAC is a particular database architecture. It is normally set up and maintained by a DBA. So there's no or there.

You would go for the one that interests you the most. I suggest you read up on the options. But if you're just starting out it is easier to become a developer than a DBA.

We don't know anything about you.
We don't know what you're good at.
We don't know what you're interested in.
We don't know what careers are available where you are.

So how can we tell you what to do?

DBA may for you, or not. Some people like it, some don't.
Some companies give DBA's far more to do than others.
Sometimes DBAs get involved in design/analysis/development, some just look after production DB's. It depends on the company.

So read up on what's involved. See what jobs are available in your area. Make a decission.
