How can I replicate 2 production database? I know I can use Data Guard. But is there any other way or Data Guard is the best way?

I want to know about:
1) Replication of production database
2) If one go down another will take charge

There are many ways with their pros and cons but "Enterprise Manager" forum is not the good one to find them.

Anyway, standby database is THE solution designed to fulfill 1 and 2 at the same time.
