i had successfully installed Oracle onto a server, but now i want to rename the machine name. so can i do that or cant? if yes then where all i have to make changes to ensure smooth operation

Hi,
You can do the renaming of the m/c, that does not affect the oracle installation, but check the tnsnames.ora file, this will contain the m/c name for the oracle service.
