I am connecting to an Oracle database through an ODBC connection using the Oracle ODBC driver version 8.01.07.00.

Once connected and schema is established, in preparing my sql statement and result set all columns available to me are set to field type character regardless of what they are in the actual database, i.e. numeric fields in the database are available to me as only string fields.

I'm not sure if this is on the database (Oracle) end or my application that polling via ODBC (Gentran) end.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
