Hi,
I'm getting the below error when i'm trying to connect a client machine to a unix server. Actually the client has IIS 4.0 running and it acts and the front end server and has oracle 8.1.6 client. now i'm trying to connect it to the unix server where oracle 8i is running. the sql net client parameters are perfect. it seems only the two machines are not talking to each other. for example i can connect to any unix server from the client except to the 123 server. and i can connec to 123 server from any client except the 345 client. help is appreciated.

something is wrong with the TNS entries.
check the hoststring.
check using PING and TNSPING

ping is succesfull, tnsping is also sucess.
Infact couple of web applications running in the 123 client - IIS 4.0 is using the database in 456. the problem is that the client is communicating with the server but not to a particular database.
