How do I create a database using Oracle 8i on W98 SE operating system? When I installed the software, I was not given the opportunity to create one while installing the software. This is on my home PC, so I don't have a network and how do I connect to a database without being on a network?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Because you are using Win 98 you are limited to which version of Oracle Server you can run. The main version, "Enterprise Edition" cannot be run on Win98 and therefore you can't create a DB. Personal Oracle and Oracle Lite will work. Not sure about Standard / Workgroup Edition. Create database using Oracle Database Configuration Assistant in your Windows start menu.

I never had a problem until I upgraded to W98 second Edition. I created a database without any problems. Personal Oracle took 43 hours to connect on W98 Second Edition.
