i try to import data from a dmp file using following command:

imp scott/tiger tables=emp ignore=y

IMP-00037: Character set marker unknow
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

What is this message stating, and how do I get the import to work correctly?

Many thanks in advance.

can u furnish more details?
OS, oracle version, etc?
else
in most cases the problem is the DMP file is corrupted.
did u ftp the file or somthing like that?
if the dmp is in the same machine, there might be someother things to be taken care of

Thanks, Mahesh. You're right. The dmp file is corrupted.
