Yes I did..Follow the steps:
1 - Copy the content of your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into D:Oracle ...

2 - Search the file Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have
copied Oracle8i. You can found it in:

- For Oracle8i 1.7:

D:OraclestageComponentsoracle.swd.jre1.1.7.301
DataFilesExpandedjrewin32binsymcjit.dll

- For Oracle8i 1.6:

D:OraclestageComponentsoracle.swd.jre1.1.7.241
DataFilesExpandedjrewin32binsymcjit.dll

3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll

4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from D:Oraclesetup.exe

I tried changing the file name but that did not work for me.

Once i copied all the files over to the hard drive I was able to launch the installer from the command line (DOS Prompt in XP)

Hi Sandy,

I came across you solution for installing Oracle8i on XP. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. Any ideas? Was you version of XP, Home or Professional? I have Professional; I'm not sure if this would make a difference.

Thanks

Guys i hope that u can reply me on my email, this is urgent n thanx in advance.
Hi, Oracle8i 1.6 on winXP Professional (P4), runs smoothly at the first time i connected to the
database (using scott/tiger etc). But after i shut down/restart my pc, the next time i try to
connect, i can't:

ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

i did change the symcjit.dll file to another file name.
i tried to change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS: "-mx48m" to "-mx48 -nojit" for my second installation
when previous installations had the same problem.

From the winXP user account (not the administrator acc), when i connect i get this msg:
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocal adapter error

How can i solve this problem, please this is urgent. Thanks in advance.
