I have an instance of Oracle 9.2.0.5 running on an XP machine. Everytime I use tools like Toad, Sql Navigator or even sql plus to connect to the database from another machine and I'm idle for a few mins I loose my connection and I have re connect. If I'm using sqlplus or TOAD locally on the same box I'm completely fine I don't loose my connection.

Please let me know what I should be looking at to fix this issue.

Thanks!

On the machine that get the time out, check the sqlnet.ora file for a timeout.

It is in the $oracle_home\network\admin folder.

As per suggested by Kim.
Inactive Session Expiration Time Kill inactive SQLNET sessions

sqlnet.expire_time = <integer_minutes>
sqlnet.expire_time=10
***
sqlnet.expire_time=0 ( set and see what happen)

Hope this Helps
Mohammad Taj.
