Hi all,

We are installing oracle 10gR2 in sunsolaris 5.8 version (Unix Box) .

It gives the following error in between the installation.

OUI-10094:Problem in saving inventory. Installation cannot continue.

/oracleappserver/infra/inventory/ContentsXML/ora
clehomeproperties.xml (Permission denied)

What will be the root cause of this and how come it can be overcomed.

Please advice.

Prashanth

10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.2?

Also, do you have any other oracle installed already?

Sounds like a Bug according to metalink
You have installed 8.1.7 (or 9.2.0) and 10gR1 on a server, using a common Unix userid (for example, "oracle")

Now you are trying to install 10gR2 on the server, using a different Unix userid (for example, "ora10gr2")

Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) reports the following error:

SEVERE: OUI-10094: Problem in saving inventory. Installation cannot continue.
$ORACLE_HOME/inventory/ContentsXML/oraclehomeproperties.xml (Permission denied)

Can you try this
1. Create a new oraInst.loc file in the $ORACLE_HOME

This file should have the follow content:

inventory_loc=$ORACLE_HOME/oraInventory
inst_group=<the_Unix_group_that_owns_the_software_installation>

2. After creating $ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc, start OUI with the following options:

./runInstaller -invPtrLoc $ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc

The -invPtrLoc flag is used to locate the oraInst.loc file.

3. Install 10gR2
By following these steps, you are installing 10gR2 using a new (separate) oraInventory

I gave read write access to the specified files mentioned in the error.

The root cause is , as app server, another oracle 10g is installed using different user we gave read write prvg to these mount points by respected login and again initiated installation and achieved successfully.

Thanks a lot for ur valuable suggestions.

Hi
Just had the same issue. Problem was we had old oracle installs on a NAS which has now gone,

Solution was to start the install again.
Go to Installed Products

Find the problem one. (tick show blank directories)

If you hover over each you see the directory name.

Then tick and select remove.
