I am testing to see whether the letters "p l z" will be automatically converted to "please", so I am typing them below without the spaces inbetween:

please

It worked.

May I join the test?

u_r_g_n_t -> urgent
p_l_s -> pls
p_l_z -> please
i_m -> im
u_ -> u
r_ -> r
ur_ -> ur

Heh, it works, but not always. But it promises!

Words like p_l_s can easily be expanded to "please", however, I'm not convinced that words like "r" can be expanded to "are" as they might be used in a non-IM context (like variable names).

May be in the code tags it shouldn't be changed. But "u", "r" and "ur" can be changed as you, are and your.

What do you say?

Point taken....
But who cares whether the variable name is "u" or "you" or not except the poster. Cool

Besides, everyone knows that variables are to be named "x", "y" and "z".

Its not as though the 'stored' text is changed from 'u' to 'you', it is only the displayed text. All they have to do is add the 'code' tags and the display problem goes away.

Hey Frank, there is a problem, when I edit my post it changes all "you" to "u"!!!

I thought we wanted the opposite.

Regards
Michel

I think a dial has been turned up a bit too high...

I typed the following text to test Michels prior reply:

are_you_aware_that_u_r_out_of_line

Replaced spaces with underscores.

This turned out as

are_you_aware_that_youare_you?out_of_line

(again, replaced the spaces)

[Edit: also, code tags did not prevent the conversion to happen]

See http://www.orafaq.com/forum/m/295708/42935/#msg_295708 for some tests
