Natural key

A natural key is a key made from existing attributes - the opposite of a Surrogate key.

Some natural key examples:

  • National ID number/ Social Security Number
  • Employee's Salary number
  • Car registration number
  • Publication's ISBN
  • City name
  • Airport name
